Service work can be a valuable part of a recovery program. ARAD can help you get plugged in so you can make a positive difference in the community
Service Work Opportunities
Service work can be a valuable part of a recovery program. A.A., N.A., and Celebrate Recovery offer built in opportunities to serve by chairing meetings, cleanup and setup, making coffee, sponsorship, greeting the newcomers, etc.
But service work does not have to be limited to 12 step work. Giving back to the community helps to fill idle time, develop a sense of purpose and value, and take focus of self and put it onto helping others. Churches and other community organizations are always looking for volunteers. What about your kid's school? Ever thought about being a big brother or big sister, or coaching a kids sports team? Volunteering at school sports activities to sell tickets or work the concession stand? How about volunteering at a homeless shelter, or at a local library to help others learn to read? If you explore, you are sure to discover an activity that feels right for you and will bring you great satisfaction. There may even be opportunities for you to volunteer at ARAD!
